A seminar held 3-5 February 2015 at Tvärminne Zoological Station was the kick-off for the cross-country venture. The aim was to present current Baltic Sea research at the two universities, to get to know each other and to discuss future research collaboration.

Merging knowledge

About 40 researchers from Helsinki University and Stockholm University attended the seminar. Prior to the meet, four key areas for collaboration had been suggested, and research clusters around these was particularly encouraged.

•  biodiversity and ecosystem functioning
•  sediment biogeochemistry and benthic-pelagic coupling
•  vegetation, fish and food webs in shallow bays
•  modelling of the above
