[{"name":"kylander-2019-islay-1","title":"Storminess proxy data for the last 6670 years from Laphroaig Peat Bog, Islay, Scotland","summary":"This dataset comprises peat parameters (bulk density, age, accumulation rates, ash content) and elemental concentration and grain size data from a peat sequence collected from the Laphroaig peat bog on Islay in southwestern Scotland.\r\n\r\nThese data detail past changes in sea level as revealed by shifts in the source of the mineral material archived at the site. In addition, periods of increased storminess (intensity and frequency) over the last 6700 cal yr BP are identified through an increase in the amount of mineral material reaching the site as well as a change in the chemistry and increased grain size of this material. \r\n\r\nThe cores were collected from the coastal Laphroaig peat bog using a Russian corer to collect ca 4 m of material in March 2016. This site is located approximately 600 m downwind from a dune system.
