The expedition was made in collaboration between Sweden and Canada with Swedish icebreaker Oden and Canadian icebreaker Louis S. St-Laurent operating together. The Swedish research was focused on environmental chemistry, marine geology and atmospheric research. Also Danish and Norwegian researchers worked on board Oden with marine geology and ice management. The logistics of the expedition was supported by the Swedish Polar Secretariat. The aim of the Canadian research programme was to collect data in support of Canada’s extended continental shelf submission to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, prepared in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The scientific program had a specific component of bringing early career scientists onboard Oden. These were supervised by the principal investigators, also with respect to their post cruise analyses.
