[{"name":"schneider-2021-tibet-1","title":"Map and data of glacial landforms and fluvial terraces on the southeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau","summary":"This dataset includes shapefiles of glacial landforms (ice-marginal moraines, glacial lineations, glacial valleys, scoured terrain) and fluvial terraces in the Shaluli Shan located on the SE margin of the Tibetan Plateau, and the resulting map.\r\n\r\nThese landforms have been mapped to reconstruct the paleoglacial footprint of the area. In addition, the high-resolution mapping of individual landforms provides a basis for detailed geomorphological and geochronological studies.\r\n\r\nThe shapefiles have been created through visual interpretation of digital elevation data (12 m spatial resolution) derived from radar images taken by the satellite TanDEM-X provided by the German Aerospace Center. Individual features were outlined manually over an area covering 11,000 square kilometres. Ice-marginal moraines, glacial valleys, scoured terrain, and fluvial terraces were mapped as polygons. Glacial lineations were mapped as polylines, and additionally, where possible, as polygons.","citations":"Schneider RAA, Blomdin R, Fu P, Xu XK, Stroeven AP (2021) Paleoglacial footprint and fluvial terraces of the Shaluli Shan, SE Tibetan Plateau. (2021).\r\n\r\nThe goal of the research project within which this dataset was created is a paleoglacial reconstruction based on glacial and fluvial geomorphology from TanDEM-X elevation data with a horizontal spatial resolution of 12 m. Furthermore, a glacial chronology based on dating of glacial and fluvial landforms using TCN and OSL is developed.","category":"Terrestrial","subcategory":"Landforms","keywords":"TanDEM-X; SE Tibetan Plateau; Paleoglaciology; Fluvial terrace; Ice-marginal moraine; Glacial valley; Glacial lineation; Scoured terrain","scientist":"Ramona Astrid Alexa Schneider, Robin Blomdin, Ping Fu, Xiangke Xu, Arjen Peter Stroeven","firstname":"Ramona","lastname":"Schneider","address":"Department of Earth Sciences; Uppsala University","postalcode":"SE-752 36","city":"Uppsala","province":"","country":"Sweden","parameters":"Earth science > Climate indicators > Paleoclimate indicators > Land records > Glaciation","location":"Continent > Asia > Southeastern Asia","progress":"Completed","language":"English","project":"Funding for complementary fieldwork in June 2019 was supported by the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing (Strategic Priority Research Program of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Grant No. XDA20100300), the Geomorphology and Glaciology research unit at the Department of Physical Geography, Stockholm University, and a stipend from the Albert and Maria Bergstr\u00f6m foundation to Ramona Schneider.","publisher":"Bolin Centre Database","version":"1","constrains":"","access":""}]
