Pålgrunden, a lighthouse located in Lake Vänern, Sweden, is one site in the Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET), managed by NASA. At this site (a.k.a. 'Palgrunden'), the radiance emerging from the water has been measured since 2008 with a modified sun-photometer installed on the offshore lighthouse platform. The measured variable is labeled AERONET - Ocean Color (AERONET-OC).

Data description
Daily data within the productive season of the year (usually May-October, dependent on weather conditions), since July 2008. Lwn are available as level 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 data at the NASA website. The data are automatically screened and level 2 data have the final calibration applied, and are quality checked.
Comments
The Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) was developed to sustain atmospheric studies at various scales with measurements from worldwide distributed autonomous sun-photometers. The network component called AERONET - Ocean Color (AERONET-OC) provides the additional capability of measuring the radiance emerging from the sea with sun-photometers installed on offshore platforms.
In 2007, within the context of ocean colour validation activities required for the Envisat mission, the European Space Agency (ESA) initiated a project for establishing and maintaining the AERONET-OC station on the Pålgrunden lighthouse in Lake Vänern with hand-on support from the Joint Research Centre in Italy (JRC). Instrument calibrations are performed at NASA Goddard Space Centre on yearly intervals. Currently, the station is funded by the Swedish National Space Board (SNSB).
