Abstract
Weather predictions are usually made with complex numerical models. While discussed for a long time already, purely data-driven methods of weather forecasting - thus methods based on statistics and machine-learning -  were not able to produce skillful forecasts. However, very recently, there has been some advances on using modern machine-learning techniques for weather forecasting. I will give an overview over these advances and discuss where they might lead to in the near future.
