DEEP workshop | Integral Projection Models

Workshop “Integral Projection Models”

Time: 12 February 09h00–14 February 17h00 2019
Venue: room P502 at the Department of Ecology, Environment and Plant Sciences (DEEP), Stockholm University

Integral projection models (IPMs) use data on how an individual’s state influences its vital rates (survival, growth and reproduction) to predict future population dynamics. IPMs are constructed from regression models predicting vital rates from demography data (such as size or age) and covariates (such as environment or climate). By combining regressions of vital rates, IPMs provide insights on the mechanisms behind ecological patterns such as population dynamics, species geographic distributions or life-history strategies. They also allow us to make predictions of population’s fates with different climate change scenarios.

This workshop targets graduate students, postdoctoral researchers and established academics who are interested in population dynamics. Participants should have an intermediate level in R. The time during the workshop will be allocated to theory and hands-on exercises in R. Participants will have the opportunity to work on their own data and ask related questions during the workshop. Ten participants are welcome to this workshop with priority to PhD students. The workshop gives 1 credit.

Invited teacher: Johan Petter Dahlgren from Syddansk University (Denmark)
