Upcoming Summer School

Climate science at high latitudes: eScience for linking Arctic measurements and modeling
at Abisko Scientific Research Station (Sweden)

The course aims to teach the next generation of scientists to integrate different eScience tools and infrastructures to achieve a more holistic interpretation of the climate system and its components through model and data analysis. The focus of the course is on the application of eScience tools, but applied to climate and air quality research at high northern latitudes. It is the third part of a series of three two-week graduate courses, open to graduate students and early career scientists from the Nordic countries and Europe.

15–24th of October 2019 in Abisko

More details and the registration form (deadline: 15th of August 2019) can be found here: https://www.aces.su.se/research/projects/course-series-on-climate-science-at-high-latitudes

"Dynamics and Predictability of the Ocean-Atmosphere System and Computational Aspects"

Atmospheric  and  oceanic  sciences  constitute  an  excellent  interdisciplinary  example where  mathematical  physics,  statistics, numerical  methods  and scientific computing  meet.  Weather and  ocean forecasting  are  used  by  many  customers  including weather centres, insurance and energy companies. This Summer School brings togetherscientists from weather forecasting, oceanography  and  computing  and  aims  to  educate  and  motivate  youngpostgraduatesand  researchers  from  mathematicsand numerical analysis to climate and environmental science.

July 22–August 2, 2019
at the  National Institute of Marine Science and Technology (INSTM)
28, rue du 2 mars 1934, 2025 Salammbô, Tunisia

"Geophysical fluid dynamics on Bornö" This summer during 28 July–10 August there will be a summer school in geophysical fluid dynamics on Bornö, a small island on the west coast of Sweden. It is arranged jointly be the universities in Stockholm, Oslo, Hamburg and Copenhagen, with teachers and students from all four universities. It was also organized last summer; here is a link with a schedule and pictures from that:

https://nbiocean.bitbucket.io/bornoe2018b

In the course, the basic equations describing large-scale rotating flow are used to study various phenomena in the atmosphere and ocean, for example geostrophic adjustment, Rosssby waves, Kelvin waves and Sverdrup
circulation. Each day here will be lectures before lunch, and computer exercises to test the theory in the afternoon.

The summer school is free of charge.

If you are interested in participating, please inform This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. as soon as possible. There is room for 3 students from Stockholm.
