The work was carried on byanother famous Swede and a climate scientist, Bert Bolin, whoin 1990 took the science of climate change and its implicationsto the whole world as the first chairman of the IPCC,Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.Society has responded rather tepidly to the dangers of climatechange, except for good examples like California and Swedenwhich have shown the world how to reduce emissions ofcarbon dioxide and other climate pollutants and still enjoyprosperous economies.Using data collected over the last three decades, I haveconcluded that unchecked climate change poses serious threatsfor our children and grand-children. However, there is still timeto avoid catastrophic changes. I will describe ten solutions(developed with a team of fifty faculty from the University ofCalifornia system), which if implemented with urgency, canprotect the people as well as the ecosystems.
