This dataset presents the time series of aerosol (total and back) light scattering, and scattering enhancement factors measured with in situ tandem humidified nephelometers. Measurements from twenty-six sites around the globe were analyzed under a standardized procedure creating a benchmark dataset.
The dataset covers the period from 1998 to 2017 (different for each site) and was measured as part of short campaigns or long-term monitoring sites
The sites composing the dataset can be now intercompared to each other, and the whole dataset can be used to validate remote sensing or evaluate model data, among others.

Data description
This dataset contains multi-wavelength particle light scattering coefficients (σsp) and hemispheric backscattering (σbsp) coefficients for different relative humidities (RH) between RH = 30 and 95% and wavelength between λ = 450 nm and 700 nm, presented as a function of size cut. It also contains the scattering enhancement factor (defined as the ratio between the light scattering coefficient at wet conditions and its dry value), calculated in this study at RH = 85%.
Tandem-humidified nephelometer measurements from 26 ground-based sites around the globe have been reanalyzed and harmonized into a single dataset.
The dataset is divided into three data levels, and each site contains yearly files separated by size cut. Data records are included in 333 ASCII files (NASA Ames format, with file extenstion .nas). Large files have been compressed and stored as .7z files. For detailed information about the variables composing each level and the data process, please see Burgos et al. (2019; Scientific Data).
