Holocene plant macrofossil and geochemical data from permafrost peatlands in Tavvavuoma, Sweden, and Finnmark, Norway

This dataset contains detailed information on plant macrofossils, bulk density, loss on ignition, and carbon and nitrogen content at four permafrost peatland sites; Dávva and Riba in Tavvavuoma, northern Sweden and Lakselv and Karlebotn in Finnmark, northern Norway.

The profiles were collected in late August until early September 2019. Peat layer profiles were radiocarbon dated from 5000 cal yr BP until present.

The aim of this study was to further increase our knowledge of permafrost history in northern Fennoscandia on a more precise timescale during the last 5000 years.

Data description

The dataset contains two .xlsx files:

1. Hichens_Sannel_2023_plant_geochemical_data_Bolin.xlsx Information on depth (in cm), dry bulk density (in g/cm³), organic matter (in %), carbon and nitrogen (C and N) content (in %), stable isotopes of C and N (in ‰) and the C/N ratio.
