This dataset contains meteorological data acquired by Tarfala Research Station’s automated weather station located in Lihtti, northern Sweden, between September 2021 and March 2023.
Lihtti is an important site for the Sami Girjas reindeer herding community. This record continues previous records from Lihtti, spanning the period July 2015 to September 2020. Remoteness of, and occasionally extreme conditions at, the site pose a challenge to continuous data acquisition.
Meteorological variables reported here are: air temperature, relative humidity, short wave radiation, wind speed, and wind direction, as well as variables derived from these (such as minimum and maximum, for instance).

Data description
The dataset consists of a csv-file containing values for the following meteorological variables collected at Lihtti, geographical location: N 7532929, E 619168 (SWEREF99 TM coordinate system), elevation 914 m above sea level:
date_time
ta_avg
: Average air temperature (°C), 10 minute arithmetic mean of measurements conducted once per minute. Measured by a HygroClip 2S3 in a Solar Radiation Shield installed 2.1 m above ground.
ta_min
: Minimum air temperature in output interval.
ta_max
: Maximum air temperature in output interval.
ta_std
: Standard deviation of TA within output interval.
rh
- Relative humidity of air (%). Measured by a HygroClip 2S3 in a Solar Radiation Shield installed 2.1 m above ground. Transient measurement at output interval.
sw_avg
: Incoming shortwave radiation (W / m²). Measured by a CS300 installed at 2.6 m above ground. Measured every ten seconds. Arithmetic mean of all readings within output interval.
sw_std
: Standard deviation of SW within output interval.
ws_avg
: Wind speed (m / s), measured by a Young Wind Monitor 05103-5 installed 3.0 m above ground. Measured every ten seconds. Arithmetic mean of all readings within output interval.
ws_min
: Minimum wind speed within output interval.
ws_max
: Maximum wind speed within output interval.
ws_std
: Standard deviation of WS within output interval.
wd
: Wind direction (degrees from Geographic North 0-360°), measured by a Young Wind Monitor 05103-5 installed 3.0m above ground. Measured every ten seconds. Vector average of all readings within output interval.
Variables are date and time stamped YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm (in UTC+1). The dataset spans from 20 September 2021, 09:00 to 29 March 2023, 17:00 and thus contains 79987 records.
