Data from expedition OSO, Southern Ocean, 2010

The OSO (Oden Southern Ocean) 2009/10 expedition was carried out during austral summer 2009/10 in Southern Ocean waters off West Antarctica.

With the Swedish icebreaker Oden serving as the research platform, a range of scientific investigations were made. The main scientific goal was to investigate the history of the Pine Island Glacier by mapping of submarine glacial landforms and analyses of sediment cores. Data provided in the database here comprise processed multibeam bathymetry.

The expedition started in McMurdo Station, Antarctica, and ended in Punta Arenas, Chile, and lasted from February 8 to March 12, 2010.

Comments

The icebreaker Oden was chartered by the US National Science Foundation (NSF) to break an ice channel to the McMurdo station on the Ross Sea, to enable researchers to conduct trans-disciplinary studies in the Antarctic region. On the voyage back to South America, the icebreaker served as a research platform for the OSO expedition. The logistics of the expedition was supported by the Swedish Polar Secretariat, in collaboration with the Swedish Maritime Administration.
