This dataset encompasses experimentally derived data of the partitioning of an isotopically labelled Monomethylmercury (MMHg) tracer. We study the partitioning of the tracer in slurries prepared from combining three different soil particle types and 3 different water types during an adsorption and desorption phase over time. This dataset contains the concentrations in the aqueous and solid phase at several timepoints. The soils and waters were collected in Northern Sweden and Norway.

The experiments were conducted to study the formation of refractory MMHg pools (MMHg that adsorbed during the adsorption phase but is not available for desorption during the desorption phase after exchanging the aqueous phase).

Understanding how much particulate MMHg is bound to particles in a refractory form has important implications for the environmental fate of MMHg.
