Data from the CESM v1.0.4 model for evaluation of quasi-equilibrium criteria in coupled climate model simulations
Srinath Krishnan, Agatha M. de Boer, Natalie Burls
This dataset contains simulation output run with CESM v1.0.4 for 5000+ year simulations run with 2x, 4x, 8x, and 16xCO₂. The data contains several output variables; meridional overturning circulation, surface atmospheric temperature, sea-surface temperature, deep water temperature, ideal age, top of the atmosphere radiative fluxes, and precipitation variables to calculate the ITCZ.
This supports the investigation of how the commonly used criteria performs for validating that a coupled climate model is in quasi-equilibrium. The dataset consists of model output for five different simulations that span a range of CO₂ levels, thus providing different pathways to quasi-equilibrium.
The criteria include both ocean and atmospheric variables (and so does the dataset) and global and regional values. Annual means are calculated for the length of the simulation (5000+ year simulations). Most variables are 3-D variables set on a time, latitude, and longitude axis. The meridional overturning circulation (MOC) variable has additional dimensions of the MOC region, MOC component (and no longitude).

Data description
The dataset has output variables from five different simulations with CESM v1.0.4 (Shields et al. 2012) (provided in five folders) with the variables of interest being plotted for 5000+ years (the exact number of years vary slightly between the simulations).
Data are provided as NetCDF files. Total size: 7.5 GB.
