Global fields of meteorological and aerosol data from seven experiments with the NorESM2 model under different warming scenarios

Tuomas Naakka, Annica M. L. Ekman, Anna Lewinschal, Kalle Nordling

This dataset contains modeled basic meteorological variables from NorESM2 simulations with prescribed sea ice cover and sea surface temperatures (SST) in present day climate and in end-of-21st-century climate using shared socioeconomic pathways (SSP) scenarios SSP5-8.5 and SSP1-2.6.

These simulations were designed to improve understanding of the contributions of sea ice cover decrease and SST increase in climate warming, and together with similar experiments with other models to quantify uncertainty associated with atmospheric response to sea ice decrease and SST increase.

The dataset includes global fields of basic meteorological and aerosol variables from seven NorESM2 experiments.

Data description

The data have been produced with NorESM2 version 2.0.5 using prescribed sea surface temperature and sea ice.

The data consist of seven 40 years experiments, with different SST and sea ice conditions:

  • baseline sea ice cover and SST input from historical simulation (years 1950 - 1969)

The dataset is provided in seven compressed (tar.gz) files, one for each experiment.
All data are in NetCDF (nc) files.
Total number of files is 8960 and total size (uncompressed) is 171 GB.
Each file includes 1 variable and 1 year of data.
Data is ordered by experiments and by variable.
Horizontal resolution of data is 2.5x1.9 degree.

3D data has 32 model (hybrid) levels. Pressures (Pa) on level boudaries are defind p = a + b*ps
