Data from expedition AGAVE, Arctic Ocean, 2007
Martin Jakobsson
The AGAVE (Arctic Gakkel Vents) expedition was carried out during summer 2007 in the central Artic Ocean with a main focus on mapping and sampling the Gakkel Ridge.
With the Swedish icebreaker Oden serving as the research platform, a range of scientific investigations were made. The main scientific goal was to investigate the volcanism in the Gakkel Ridge. Data provided in the database here comprise processed multibeam bathymetry.
The expedition started in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, and ended in Tromsø, Norway, and lasted from July 1 to August 10, 2007.

Comments
The expedition represented an international collaboration between scientists in the United States, Sweden, Japan, and Germany, and was part of an International Polar Year (IPY) project entitled Biogeography and Geological Diversity of Hydrothermal Venting on the Ultra-Slow Spreading Arctic Mid-Ocean Ridge. The logistics of the expedition was supported by the Swedish Polar Secretariat, in collaboration with the Swedish Maritime Administration.
Major funding for the cruise came from the United States through the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI).
