Sea ice system carbonate chemistry from expedition ARTofMELT, Arctic Ocean, 2023
Samantha Glass, Penny Vlahos
This is the raw data for sea ice system carbonate chemistry collected onboard the Swedish icebreaker Oden during the expedition ARTofMELT (Atmospheric Rivers and the Onset of Arctic Melt) in the Fram Strait pack ice during the spring transition, 8 May to 14 June of 2023.
Data includes dissolved inorganic carbon, spectrophotometric potential of hydrogen (pH) on the total scale (measured at 25 °C), total alkalinity, nutrients, dissolved organic carbon, and in-situ hydrographic parameters. The outputs from carbonate system calculations (e.g., aragonite saturation state, in-situ pH) are also included.
The objective of the study was to evaluate the spatiotemporal dynamics of the marine carbonate system at the onset of melt in the eastern Central Arctic Ocean. This dataset includes data for samples across the sea ice system including sea ice, seawater, under-ice water, brine, snow, lead, and slush.
