The CHALMERS 2023 OpenMetBuoy-v2021 deployment data contains measurements of sea ice drift and waves in ice from seven OpenMetBuoys deployed on three sea ice floes West of Svalbard.
The buoys were deployed to collect information about sea ice dynamics, including position, drift speed, ice floe rotation, ice floe deformation and break up (and potentially formation of ice ridges and opening of leads), and waves in ice.
The OpenMetBuoys were anchored on the ice and transmitted data via an Iridium data link. The first two ice floes were equipped with three OpenMetBuoys each. The third ice floe only got one buoy.
Data were collected during the ARTofMELT 2023 with Swedish icebreaker Oden in the Fram Strait pack ice during the spring transition (8 May to 14 June) of 2023. Five of the OpenMetBuoys continued to send data after June 14, in one case until November 11, 2023.
