Stockholm Historical Weather Observations

Snow depth

Snow depth at the old Stockholm Astronomical Observatory has been measured regularly since the winter 1904/05.

Snow depth is currently measured with a ruler or measuring stick every day at 7 o'clock (Swedish normal time). The measurement is made at a precision of one centimetre and the reported snow depth should preferably be a mean value over at least five measurements within a few metres.

A data file with the maximum observed snow depth in December and during December-April each winter is available for download. More information on how snow depth measurements are made at Swedish meteorological stations is available at the SMHI website.
