Research data support at the Bolin Centre

Data management is an important part of science. The Bolin Centre provides support for data management to our scientists. Here we present an overview of what we offer.

Plan

Most research funders require a data management plan. Stockholm University provides some support for this, including a template prepared for the Bolin Centre. Read more about this at the research data support website at SU, where you will find general information about research data management at our university.

Create, process, analyze

Research data can be generated in many different ways, depending on the type of research, e.g. by measurements, observations or simulations. The Bolin Centre provides support for high-performance computing through NAISS. Read more on how to get started on the SNIC computing resources.

Publish, reuse, archive

Most academic journals and funders require publication of data in an open repository. We recommend you to use the Bolin Centre Database. Research data produced by employees at Stockholm University must be archived. When you publish data at the Bolin Centre Database, your data will automatically be archived.

Data life cycle

Open Science is a new approach that aims to make science more transparent. Data management is a crucial part in science. It is important that produced data can be understood and re-used. This can be described as a data life cycle.

The data life cycle can be divided into several stages. It is helpful to have an overview of all stages already in the planning of a research project. The Bolin Centre offers support in all these stages.

Plan

Research funders generally require a data management plan (DMP) for all funded projects. Stockholm University provides central support for how to write a DMP, including an online tool with a template for the Bolin Centre.

Large scale data resources

Research data can be generated in many different ways, depending on the type of research. Bolin Centre provides support for high-performance computing and storage through NAISS.

Storage

Scientists at the Bolin Centre have access to two general data storage alternatives for intermediate storage and sharing of research data.

Publish

Journals and research funders often require publication of data following the FAIR principles in an open repository. We recommend you to use the Bolin Centre Database.
