Newer versions of this dataset are available

This dataset contains glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraether (GDGT) distributions from a soil transect, two peat cores and a short lake core on West Sumatra. We report the peak areas for isoprenoid-GDGTs, branched-GDGTs and H-GDGTs, allowing GDGT indexes to be calculated by the user.

GDGT data can be used as paleothermometry and paleoenvironmental proxies, and we use the data to reconstruct the Holocene temperature evolution and local environmental conditions on Sumatra over the Holocene.

The data was generated by high performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) measurements of polar lipid extracts. The soils are from an altitudinal transect 0 – 2840 m elevation range, while lake and peat core sediments are of ages up to 11000 years, i.e., almost the entire Holocene.

Data description

Reported data are the peak areas of a range of GDGT compounds. Blanks indicate that the compound was absent in the sample, or under the limit of quantification. File type: .csv. Character set: Western Europe (ISO-8859-15/EURO). File size: 110 kB.

Comments

Petter Hällberg generated the Diatas and Singgalang data and curated all other data. Guillermo Jarne Bueno generated the Padang data and Yolanda Schankat generated the lake Maninjao data. Julia Steinbach assisted with the analyses. Hamdi Rifai and Caroline Bouvet de la Maisonneuve were responsible for the collection of the Diatas, Padang and Maninjao samples and aided in obtaining the Singgalang samples. Rienk H. Smittenberg provided funding and led the project and he is also an alternative contact person.
