Seawater dimethyl sulfide and dimethylsulfoniopropionate data from the Arctic Ocean 2018 expedition

Newer versions of this dataset are available

Discrete water-column dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) measurements collected aboard icebreaker Oden during the Arctic Ocean 2018 (AO2018) expedition to the central Arctic Ocean in August and September 2018, also referred to as MOCCHA-ACAS-ICE.

The dataset contains discrete measurements of dimethylsulfide, dissolved dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSPd) and total dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSPt) concentrations from high-latitude regions of the ice-covered Arctic Ocean. Samples were collected in the upper 200m at an ice floe drift station from ship-based conductivity, temperature and depth (CTD) sondes, an open lead adjacent to the ice floe and a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) hole through the ice floe.

The data were collected as part of the MjOLNIR project (Microbial Oceanography Links to New aerosols in Ice-covered Regions in the Arctic Ocean).

Data description

Seawater DMS and DMSP concentrations is nanomoles per liter. Values below the limit of detection (0.05 nmol/L for DMS and 0.02 for DMSP) are given as 0 (zero). Data are available in a single Microsoft Excel Workbook (.xlsx format) file. The same data are also provided as a comma-separated values (csv) file (character set: UTF-8).

Comments

Data were collected during the Arctic Ocean 2018 expedition on board the Swedish icebreaker (I/B) Oden, which was organized by the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat.
