Bulk organic carbon, isotopes and terrigenous biomarkers for the marine sediment core SWERUS-L2-31-PC1

This dataset contains biochemical data analyzed in the sediment core SWERUS-L2-31-PC1, an archive spanning over the past 27,000 years recovered from the Southern Lomonosov Ridge in the Arctic Ocean.
Core SWERUS-L2-31-PC1 provides evidence for permafrost carbon export across the Last Glacial Maximum and through the Holocene. It also suggests importance of permafrost for atmospheric CO₂ and illustrates the sensitivity of permafrost carbon pools to Arctic warming.
The core was recovered during the SWERUS-C3 (Swedish – Russian – US Arctic Ocean Investigation of Climate-Cryosphere-Carbon Interactions) expedition with the Swedish icebreaker Oden during summer 2014.

Data description
This dataset contains bulk organic carbon (OC) concentrations, δ¹³C-OC, Δ¹⁴C, ΔΔ¹⁴C (corrected for residence time in the sediment), OC flux rates, concentrations and abundance ratios and degradation proxies of lignin phenol biomarkers, as well as concentrations and degradation proxies of HMW n-alkanes and HMW n-alkanoic acids. The dataset also includes results from quantitative source apportionment of the bulk OC.

The laboratory work was carried out between 2016 – 2019 at the Department of Environmental Science and the Department of Geological Sciences, Stockholm University.
