Data from Tarfala Research Station, Kebnekaise mountains, northern Sweden
Tarfala Research Station staff
Collection of data from Tarfala Research Station (TRS) and locations associated with it in a wider geographic vicinity. The station is located at 1130 m a.s.l. in the Kebnekaise mountains, northern Sweden. The valley is a sub-arctic high alpine valley.
The datasets concern both different locations and different objects/topics. They range from glacier surface mass balance and digital elevation models (DEM) datasets for glaciers, to meteorological datasets from automated weather stations, to datasets for lakes (bathymetry, water temperature series and time-lapse imagery of ice-phenology) and to elevation data from Sweden's formerly highest peak, Kebnekaise southern peak, for which elevation is shrinking because of the thinning of the glacier located on its top.
The datasets vary with regard to their temporal coverage — some extend several decennia back in time and are continuously updated since, while others have more recent starting dates and may be continuously updated or may have terminated at some point in time. Datasets will be updated and/or added progressively.

Tarfala Research Station
Tarfala Research Station (TRS) is Stockholm University’s centre for glaciological and alpine research. At TRS, both disciplinary and interdisciplinary research is conducted, studying the effects of climate change on the local cryosphere and peri-glacial environments, and relating it to pan-arctic and global change and its implications for the future. Long term observations of watercourses and ecosystems are also carried out alongside long term observations of the changing state of glaciers.
Publications
The TRS website includes a list of publications related to research at the station.
Other data repositories
Over the years, data from TRS have been made accessible at different repositories. Links to where older TRS data was made available initially are provided in the data descriptions of individual datasets in this collection where applicable.
