Raw and processed radio-echo sounding data for Storglaciären, northern Sweden
Zhuo Wang, Neil Ross, Nina Kirchner
This dataset contains raw and processed radio-echo sounding (RES) data collected on 2024-03-12 and 2024-04-20 on Storglaciären, northern Sweden. The data can be used to derive estimates of the ice thickness.
RES surveys were conducted at high spatial density, covering most of the glacier surface. The total length of the RES survey profiles is 82.5 km.
Storglaciären is one of Sweden’s four so-called reference glaciers (glaciers for which more than 30 years of continuous measurements are available) included in the World Glacier Monitoring Service (WGMS) database. The surface mass balance series for Storglaciären is also the World’s longest detailed one.

Processed_data
Ten SEG-Y (SGY) files, each representing a processed RES profile corresponding to the raw RES data in the folder Original_data.
The data were processed using the ReflexW module for 2-D data analysis (Sandmeier Scientific Software, version 10.5).
The data processing flow, designed to enhance bed reflections, comprises dewow, time-zero correction, dynamic correction, signal divergence compensation, 2-D filtering, Butterworth bandpass filtering, and Kirchhoff migration.

Data collection
The data was collected by Blue System Integration ice penetrating radar (v3), towed behind a snowmobile (Mingo and Flowers, 2010). RES data were collected in an in-line antenna configuration, with antenna separation of 15 m, operating at a central wavelength of 16.8 m and a receiver sampling rate of 125 MHz.
The snowmobile was driven at a speed of 4–6 m/s. The RES signals were stacked 512 times during acquisition, resulting in a trace spacing of 4–6 m. The survey-line spacing along ice flow and across the ice flow direction are 20 – 210 and 40 – 120 m, respectively. The survey trajectory was tracked by the GPS receiver integrated into the RES system.
