This dataset is part of the Circum-Arctic Sediment Carbon Database (CASCADE) and contains carbon data of surface sediments across the Arctic Ocean. Surface sediments are here defined as those collected from the water-sediment interface to a depth of maximum 5 cm.
This dataset permits studies of contemporary biogeochemical cycling in the Arctic Ocean using measured organic carbon (OC) concentrations, total nitrogen (TN) concentrations, OC isotopes (δ¹³C, Δ¹⁴C), and terrigenous biomarkers in surface sediments.
The dataset includes data from the published literature and yet unpublished data.

The dataset of surface sediments consists of one table, available as Excel spreadsheet (.xslx), tab-separated text (.txt) file, and as zipped GIS shapefile (in WGS84 geographic coordinate system):

Data sheet structure
Each row in the CASCADE data sheet for surface sediments represents one oceanographic station, for which one or several carbon parameters were analyzed. All data and meta data for each station and measurement have are organized as columns in the data table. More detail about all parameters is provided in the companion manuscript.
